The Jugošik Apartment is no ordinary interior. Its renovation is based on the search for a contemporary yet authentic living space. This warm interior, with a clear spatial concept and a strong focus on sustainability, draws inspiration from the past while thoughtfully responding to the needs of modern living.

The 64 m² apartment is located on the raised ground floor of a period building in the Tabor district of Ljubljana. The main design goal was to create a spacious, flowing, and light-filled interior. This was achieved through a circular layout made possible by reopening the original doorway between the two rooms, widening the passage to the kitchen, and installing an interior window between the kitchen and hallway.

According to the original plans, the kitchen was also meant to include a separate room for a kitchen maid with its own entrance, but those doors were never installed. The new interior window now opens up fresh views that visually expand the apartment. A unified flooring—natural oiled oak parquet—further enhances the sense of flow and visually connects all four spaces.

The floor plan is designed to allow for flexible furniture arrangements and to adapt to changing living needs. The only fixed element is the kitchen, crafted from lacquered MDF, which—with its simple design—creates a stable focal point within the space.

Most of the furniture and lighting was sourced second-hand—found through online platforms, at recycling centers, or inherited. Rather than undergoing classic restoration, many of the pieces were reinterpreted: individual elements were combined to create new, one-of-a-kind cabinets that go beyond simple functionality and tell their own story.

One such example is a low cabinet composed of three different parts—drawers from a kitchen sideboard, legs from a 1960s table, and handles from the designer’s childhood room. The ceiling light installation in the living room was created from as many as 15 glass lampshades, once part of various vintage chandeliers.

In addition to paintings and mirrors, the walls are adorned with everyday objects and personal mementos, carefully arranged into visually balanced compositions. This adds an extra layer of warmth, meaning, and a sense of belonging to the space.

In the small but tall bathroom, the ceiling was intentionally left at its full height, and the tiles with balloon motifs were placed higher than usual, creating a more spacious feel.
